Neat’s Innovation Story: Smarter Meetings, Smoother Management, and What’s Next

Hayley Spooner, Aug 21, 2025

Hybrid work is here to stay, but not all meetings are created equal. At Neat, we’re reimagining how people connect, with devices and software that make every meeting inclusive, effortless, and future-ready.

Since Neat was founded, we’ve has been on a mission to rethink the way people meet. We believe video collaboration should be simple, natural, and inclusive – whether you’re dialing in from a home office, running a team session in a huddle room, or presenting to hundreds in a large conference hall.

To that end, we’ve built a portfolio of award-winning devices, developed a powerful management platform, and introduced innovations that have redefined the standards of hybrid work. This year, the pace of innovation at Neat has only accelerated, with exciting advances on the horizon. Here’s a deep dive into where we’ve been, what we’ve built, and where we’re going next.

A pioneering startup

Neat was founded in Oslo in February 2019 with a bold goal: to simplify video conferencing technology so much that it felt almost invisible. By October that year, we officially launched the company and shipped our first products: Neat Bar and Neat Pad

It may seem simple now – a video bar with exceptional camera and audio quality, paired with an intuitive touchscreen controller – but it set a new benchmark for ease of use. Instead of racks of AV gear and hours of installation, teams could get up and running in minutes.

By the end of 2020, we had followed with Neat Board, an all-in-one collaboration display that blended video, audio, and interactive whiteboarding in one device. It also came with a floor stand so teams could move it freely between spaces. Suddenly, video meetings didn’t require a fixed room setup – the technology could go where the collaboration was happening.

This philosophy of flexibility, simplicity, and design excellence has shaped every Neat product since.

Expanding the portfolio

As organizations embraced hybrid work, demand grew for devices that fit different spaces and use cases. Neat responded quickly.

  • Neat Frame, launched in 2022, offered a personal video device ideal for hot desks, home offices, or reception areas. With its portrait orientation and sharp camera, it delivered a natural face-to-face experience.
  • For larger meeting rooms, Neat Bar Pro brought greater processing power and audio-visual capabilities, ensuring everyone could be seen and heard in big spaces – whilst simplifying the setup.
  • We also introduced Neat Center, a 360° center-of-room mic and camera, giving remote participants a fully immersive view of in-room discussions.

Each device was built with the same philosophy: easy to install, simple to manage, and designed to elevate the user experience without distraction.

Innovations that redefine meetings

What sets Neat apart isn’t just the hardware, it’s the intelligence baked into our devices.

One of our earliest breakthroughs was Neat Symmetry, a patented technology that automatically frames each participant in a room individually, so remote attendees see everyone equally. It eliminates the “bowling alley effect” of wide-angle shots and ensures even the quietest participant isn’t lost in the crowd.

Soon after came Neat Boundary, another industry first. This feature lets administrators define the camera’s active zone, so only the people within a meeting area are captured. In offices with glass walls, open layouts, or high foot traffic, Neat Boundary keeps the focus where it should be: on the people in the meeting, not those walking past.

These innovations also feature in our center-of-room cameras, Neat Center. Whether someone is presenting from the front of the room, leading a training session, or addressing colleagues from a lectern, Neat devices can frame them perfectly, creating a more engaging experience for remote participants.

These features aren’t just clever tricks. They’re rooted in our mission: making meetings fair, inclusive, and natural for everyone involved.

Partnerships that power possibilities

From the beginning, Neat has worked closely with leading collaboration platforms. By mid-2021, Neat devices were fully certified for Microsoft Teams, making us one of the first manufacturer’s to achieve certification across the entire product range simultaneously.

This opened the door to deeper collaboration. In 2022, Neat devices gained official certification for Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android, bringing powerful features like proximity join, content sharing, and Microsoft Teams-native controls to our hardware. We’ve also achieved GCC High certification, ensuring government and highly regulated industries can use Neat devices with confidence.

But Microsoft Teams is only part of the story. Neat devices are also certified for Zoom, and soon, Google Meet will join the list. By supporting multiple platforms, we’re giving customers true flexibility, whether their organization standardizes on one tool or blends several.

Beyond software partners, we’ve formed exciting sponsorships and collaborations. We’re proud to support the LA Clippers at their state-of-the-art Intuit Dome arena and to work with Red Bull Racing, whose fast-paced, high-performance environment demands reliable, cutting-edge technology. These partnerships aren’t just logos on a page; they’re opportunities to prove Neat’s value in some of the most advanced, demanding spaces in the world.

Neat Pulse delivers peace of mind

Great devices need great management, and that’s where Neat Pulse comes in.

Neat Pulse is our cloud-based management and monitoring platform that gives IT teams one single view to control every Neat device across their organization. Whether devices are deployed across a campus or around the globe, Neat Pulse ensures administrators always know what’s happening.

Key capabilities include:

  • Remote device health monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Remote control sessions, with some customers reporting more than 600 sessions in a single month.
  • Real-time environmental metrics like meeting room head count, temperature, and multiple aspects of air quality.
  • Secure firmware updates and feature rollouts.

Beyond management, Neat Pulse with Neat App Hub turns Neat devices into multi-purpose workplace hubs. Need room booking? Wayfinding? Digital whiteboarding with tools like Miro or Lucid? All can run directly on Neat devices through Neat Pulse.

We’ve also introduced Neat Share, which lets users bring any browser-based app from Neat App Hub into a Microsoft Teams or Zoom meeting instantly. Imagine launching a project dashboard or a whiteboarding tool in full screen, then sharing it with a single click. With Neat, collaboration doesn’t stop at the meeting platform.

Our responsible journey

As a Norwegian company, sustainability is central to our ethos. We’ve committed to using more recycled materials in our devices and continuously redesigning our packaging to be smaller, lighter, and more environmentally friendly.

For customers, this means lower logistics costs, reduced storage needs, and less waste. For example, Neat Board 50 not only delivers a faster processor and sharper camera, it also ships in packaging with a smaller footprint, making it easier to transport and handle.

By embedding sustainability into our product lifecycle, we’re helping organizations meet their environmental goals while still delivering cutting-edge collaboration tools.

The shift to AOSP device management

A significant change happening right now, is the migration from Android Device Administrator to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) device management – for Microsoft Teams-certified Neat devices.

This transition brings several benefits:

  • Stronger security: Devices integrate more tightly with Microsoft Intune, following modern authentication flows.
  • Automatic corporate tagging: No need to manually upload serial numbers to prove device ownership.
  • Future-ready: Enables upcoming features like device code flow sign-in and improved compliance policy support.

For IT teams, the migration is simple. In most cases, it happens automatically as part of a firmware update, with no disruption to end users. Over time, all new and factory-reset devices will ship with AOSP as the standard.

This shift reflects a broader truth: collaboration technology must be not only easy to use but also secure, scalable, and future-proof. With AOSP management, Neat devices are ready for the next era of enterprise IT.
